Well, how about it? Anybody have any favorite camp edibles and the recipes to go with them? It doesn't have to be dining hall fare, although it might be worth mentioning a meal that really was good or even the real disasters.
One of mine, from Troop 15's menu:
Instant Homemade Citrus Pudding
(Great for a pick me up after a day of backpacking or just plain running around camp.)
Combine (1 can per 2 people) sweetened, condensed milk with a citrus juice to taste (not too much or it will become too thin). We often used lemon juice or a little syrup from a can of mandarin orange slices or pinapple chunks. Crush up a handful or 2 of graham crackers or nilla wafers and add to mix. Add fruit chunks, if you used canned syrups. Stir until it is well mixed and thickens slightly. Garnish with a little more crushed cracker and fruit and place in cooler or stream for a couple of hours to thicken and chill or eat immediately, whatever. We used to package in small tupperware for travelling. _________________ May the Spirit of Scouting rest with us,

I remember a delicacy that we used to make some Saturday mornings when camping with Troop 46, Orange Muffins.
As a boy, learning to cook over a campfire was quite a challenge and cleaning up afterwards was even worse. Anything that we could do in order to avoid doing dishes was always welcomed.
One innovative idea that our Scoutmaster (Vic Sylvia) gave us was to start a meal with an orange.
First prepare your muffin mix. Any flavor mix will do, but remember that it will have an orange tinge to it when finished. We always used Jiffy mix becuase it was easy to pack and cheap.
Next you peel the orange being careful to leave the bottom 1/3 of the rind in 1 piece so that it forms a cup. This is best done by taking a spoon and running it between the orange and the peel to separate them.
Once you have your 'orange peel' cup you fill it 1/2 way with your muffin mix and place it in the coals of the fire. While your muffin is cooking you eat the orange (you didn't put it in the sand did you?).
This makes a nice balanced meal without any cleanup. Remember to throw away the used orange peel in the trash and not in the woods. _________________ Tom Whelan
