Hey everyone. I was looking back at the commissioners before me and around 89,I think, there was someone who was called the 'Permanent Commissioner.' Does anyone know the story behind it?

Actually, I believe it was around '84, not '89. I remember now, it was on the "There will be no more, like '84" staff plaque. |

I think it was an invented title for that year. There were no Program Commissioners when I was on staff until Peter Ashworth and I went to camp school in '89 (I haven't seen any references to that title before '89 at all).
Every week, though, we had a different Camp Commissioner, who was usually a volunteer adult in camp for just that week and whose most visible role was doing the site inspections daily (they did other things as well, but what that was varied from person to person.) I remember Bill Ashworth (Peter's dad), Gerry "Silver Fox" Sylvester, Al Hall, "Big" Al Langlais, and quite a few others in that role. In 1984, though, Larry Guillette was in camp volunteering as commissioner for the entire summer, and was dubbed the "permanent" commissioner. At least, that's how I remember things.
Larry, who had previously served on staff in the '70s, went on to be the Archery director in '85 and the Program Director in '86 and '87. He's also a big part of he cabal that created the "Molly Molly Hey" cheer, which originated in '84. _________________ Dennis
