Our 2008 Winter Gathering has come and gone, and I know I had a great time! Got to see quite a few faces that I hadn't seen in a long time, in some cases more than a decade. And, being the history buff, I was pleased that we were able to add quite a bit of info and a lot of photos to our Noquochoke collection (even including pictures from Camp Stafford, the camp that the Fall River Council used from 1916 to 1921)!
All told, we had about 50 people in attendance, and I hope everyone had as good a time as I did. If you were able to attend, and would like to let us know what you liked (or what you didn't), the gathering2008@cachalotalumni.org email address will remain active for at least another month, so you can drop us a line at that address, or feel free to post a reply right in this thread with your comments.
Thanks to everyone who stopped in, and we hope to see everyone at Homecoming! _________________ Dennis

It just happens that one of the animals Brian talked about in his Cachalot ecology presentation yesterday was in the news today. The northern red-bellied cooter/Plymouth red-bellied turtle is present in the area where the Mashpee Wampanoag are looking to build their casino, according to the group opposing the casino:

I also know that the Buttonwood Park Zoo in New Bedford has a program aimed at increasing the population of Plymouth red-bellies and other locally endangered turtles (thanks to frequent visits with my kids.) They've got a little info on their web site:
