Camp Cachalot Alumni Association Announces Homecoming 2005

Sixty Years of Memories

The Camp Cachalot Alumni Association announced today that it will be holding its first annual homecoming at Camp Cachalot in Plymouth, MA on July 9, 2005, from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Members of the Alumni Association, as well as all those who have visited or who have been associated with Camp Cachalot since its opening in 1946, are welcome to attend. Activities for the day will include guided historical tours of the camp, an alumni social, dinner in Prescott Hall, and an evening campfire. Camp Cachalot will be in the middle of its summer camp season during the homecoming and members of the camp's staff will be on-hand to give tours and demos in several program areas.

"We all look forward to being able to reunite with old friends," said Thomas Whelan, the Vice-Chairman of the Camp Cachalot Alumni Association. "For sixty years, thousands of Scouts from all over southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island have attended Camp Cachalot, made friends and shared memorable experiences. I'm hoping not only to see the people I went to camp with, but also to meet the people who attended before and after me."

The cost for the day will be $20 for current members of the Camp Cachalot Alumni Association, $25 for non-members. The deadline for registration is July 1, 2005. For more information, visit the Camp Cachalot Alumni Association's Web site at www.cachalotalumni.org or send an e-mail to homecoming2005@cachalotalumni.org. Further inquiries can be directed to the Narragansett Council through its Web site at www.narragansettbsa.org. About Camp Cachalot In 1945, the Cachalot Council Executive Board conducted a fund-raiser to purchase and construct Camp Cachalot in Plymouth, MA. In 1964, a forest fire devastated much of the grounds, requiring the camp to be rebuilt. In 1999, Camp Cachalot became a land trust in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Cachalot Council, as well as the Massasoit Council, continued to grow until 1972 when they united to form a greater organization known as the Moby Dick Council. On July 1, 2001, the Moby Dick Council in New Bedford, MA, merged with the Narragansett Council in Providence, RI
