Great to See You at Homecoming 2021!

HC2021 Group Aerial

We were glad to see over 120 alumni join the 140 Scouts and Scouters at Cachalot on September 18 to help us celebrate camp’s 75th birthday! Thank you to all of you who spent the day with us! If you couldn’t make it out yourself, or want to revisit the day, you can check out our photo album from the day over at Facebook. This year’s Wall of Fame induction of Marcel Hudon and Dennis Wilkinson was also recorded, and can be seen on our YouTube channel:

Memories of Cachalot: Dennis Prefontaine

Dennis Prefontaine was a member of Cachalot’s staff for most of the 1960s, including serving on the joint “Squachalot” staff of the two post-fire summers and serving as the Program Director for the 1968 and 1969 seasons. His time at Cachalot and the mentors he found there inspired him into making Scouting his career, and he went on to spend 43 years as a professional Scouter.

He shares his memories of his time at Cachalot with us in this interview. Be sure to stick around to the end for a true story of “Scouts on Patrol” out at Little Long Pond that will surely sound familiar to staffers of a certain vintage!

Check out previous interviews along with our complete video archive on our YouTube channel.

Diamond Jubilee Merchandise

For those of you who preordered Diamond Jubilee polos or hats, our apologies again for those not being available in time for Homecoming itself because of production delays. We expect that these will be available in time for Highland Games at Cachalot on October 9th, so if you are planning to come out for that event with your unit, you should be able to pick them up then (we still do not have them in-hand, so if that changes, we’ll let you know.) If you won't be at the Highland Games, we’ll work with you to arrange for other local delivery or shipping.

We've ordered more photo books to be sure that we’ll have enough inventory at the Highland Games as well, and we do still have some Diamond Jubilee patches, both limited and regular versions. Photo books are $50 each, and patches are $35 for a limited-edition version, $10 for a regular version, or $40 for a set of both. If you aren’t in the area or can’t make it to Highland Games, but would like to order books or patches, we’ll ship them to you at no additional cost. Please reach out to us at info@cachalotalumni.org for more information.
