Issue 1: April 24, 2021
Welcome to the first issue of The Spouter, a communication piece celebrating the 75th anniversary of our beloved Camp Cachalot. We are excited to co-chair this year of commemoration. Despite the challenges of the current pandemic, the 75th anniversary committee is planning a year of reflection and celebration of that special place that holds a singular position in the memories of most of our formative years.
In each issue we hope to bring you a short video interview with a different Cachalot alum sharing some of their indelible memories of their time at Cachalot. Additionally, we will keep you apprised of 75th Anniversary happenings and let you know how you can partake in the celebration, regardless of where you are in the world.
More than anything, we want to hear from each of you! We want to hear your most cherished memories of Camp Cachalot. If you have old photos, paperwork or other memorabilia associated with camp we’d love to get scans to add to our vast repository. The Cachalot Alumni remain committed to preserving the legacy and history of camp and we would welcome your help in that worthwhile endeavor.
We've already kicked off our celebration with a video presentation on the history of camp, but stay tuned for details on a commemorative coffee table photographic history book of Camp Cachalot and plans for a 75th Anniversary Homecoming, in-person at camp in the fall.
We look forward to sharing this journey with each of you as we look back on 75 years of life changing experiences and kick off the next 75 with renewed passion and spirit.

75th Anniversary Co-Chairs
We're planning to gather at Cachalot on Saturday, September 18, 2021 for an in-person celebration of Cachalot's 75th Anniversary! This event will combine our annual Homecoming, Cachalot Wall of Fame induction, and our diamond jubilee celebration into one great day at camp! We hope you'll be able to join us, so save the date!
More information will be made available on our various social media channels, and on our 75th Anniversary landing page on the Association's web site.
Check out this video interview with Carl Amaral, Cachalot staffer from 1966-1970 and 1970's program director. Carl tells us of his many adventures and memories of camp, culminating with a great fishing story on the shores of Five Mile Pond in 1970.
This video will be the first of a series of interviews with Cachalot alumni. Keep an eye out for more in future issues or on our YouTube channel.
What's in a name?
The Spouter was the name of an early newsletter of the Cachalot Council, and we're using it here in tribute to that older version. Unfortunately, that original Spouter is lost to time: so far, we've not been able to find any issues. If you might happen to have one, sitting in a box in attic or basement, we'd love to scan a copy for our archives! For this, or any other historic Cachalot photos or documents, you can always reach out to us at curator@cachalotalumni.org and we'll work with you to figure out how to get them into our archive. If they're pieces you want to hold on to, that's never a problem: we can make digital copies and keep the originals with you.
